About
Be the first to experience old friends and new surprises in this guided walking tour of the newly reopened Sainsbury Wing.
This tour is a great way to get reacquainted with the collection that will now take pride of place in the Sainsbury Wing galleries.
Focusing on the earliest paintings in our collection, the tour will provide context as you travel through the history of art, which rather than telling a single story, introduces new narratives in unexpected, themed rooms that tell us about the making of art, particular types of painting and individual artists.
This is a guided walking tour through the galleries for which headsets will be provided. Please meet at the Information Desk in the Sainsbury Wing Foyer.

After a degree in History of Art and Design, Anne Gowan interned at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. Following this she lectured in History of Art and Design to art and design undergraduates at Stourbridge College of Art and Stafford University and worked at West Midlands Arts, the regional base for the Arts Council. Since moving to London over 30 years ago, her career has been in media, although still maintaining her interest in arts with memberships of the main galleries in London. Anne became a Blue Badge Tourist Guide in 2023 with the ability to translate knowledge and enthusiasm into a descriptive storytelling style for an enjoyable gallery experience.
